Anasorb® — a Trademark of Quality

In 1973, SKC made the first commercial sorbent tube to be sold to NIOSH. Since then, sorbent tube technology has continued to advance and SKC is proud to have played a major role in this effort. To more easily identify SKC proprietary sorbents in air sampling methods and other technical areas, the name Anasorb became a registered trademark in 1990. While the first sorbents with the Anasorb trademark were beaded materials, the Anasorb name is used for SKC proprietary sorbents of all types.

To select a tube for a specific compound refer to the SKC Sampling Guides or use the SKC online Hazard Database

The Anasorb Range

Anasorb® 747 (20/40 mesh size and 980 m2/gm surface area)

This beaded active carbon has the capacity for organic vapours similar to petroleum-based and coconut-shell charcoals. It also can be used to sample non-polar organic compounds. Anasorb 747 is a synthetic carbon with low ash content which studies showed as a candidate material for sampling polar organic compounds that cannot be sampled using coconut charcoal, such as ketones. Anasorb 747 has properties similar to the best petroleum charcoals and can be used for a very wide range of polar and non-polar organic vapours. When combined with a solvent appropriate to mixtures such as dimethylformamide, successful sampling is possible for a majority of organic vapours.

Other sorbents with the Anasorb name:

Anasorb 727 - a microporous polymer for sampling less volatile reactive and polar compounds. Anasorb 727 is derived from cross-linked styrene and similar monomers. Sorbent properties are similar to Chromosorb® 106. The surface area is large, very unreactive, and extremely hydrophobic. This sorbent was examined as a candidate for sampling reactive and polar organic compounds. Breakthrough studies show safe sample volumes in the range of 1 to 15 Litres for a wide range of compounds with boiling points between 50 and 200°C. Experiments on breakthrough volume, desorption efficiency, and storage stability show that relative humidity has no effect on either polar or non-polar compounds. In 1995 a European project concluded that Anasorb 727 (Comparable to Chromosorb 106) is the best all-purpose sorbent for collecting industrial hygiene samples coupled with analysis by thermal desorption and gas chromatography.

Anasorb GCB1 - Graphitised Carbon Black for sampling aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. (20/40 mesh size and 100 m2/gm surface area) Anasorb Graphitised Carbon Black 1 (GCB1) has a moderate surface area and is equivalent to Carbotrap® B (20/40) and Carbopack B (60/80). This sorbent has proven to be valuable for sampling compounds of intermediate to high volatility.

Anasorb GCB2 - Graphitised Carbon Black for sampling less volatile compounds Anasorb GCB2 (20/40 mesh size and 10 m2/gm surface area) This sorbent has a low surface area and is equivalent to Carbotrap C (20/40) and Carbopack C (60/80). Anasorb GCB2 is useful in collecting semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs).

Anasorb CSC - lot 2000 Coconut-shell Charcoal for sampling organic compounds. SKC's Coconut Shell Charcoal sorbent Lot 120 was available for nearly 15 years before it was replaced by Anasorb CSC Lot 2000 in 1996. Lot 2000 is expected to have the same longevity. Lab tests run on Lot 2000 show that its sorbent quality is equal to or better than Lot 120. This sorbent has a high surface area for sampling a broad range of primarily non-polar compounds.
